Lamberts Bay is a harbour village on the West Coast of South Africa with a travel distance of approximately 275 kilometers to Cape Town.

The driving time to Cape Town is approximately 3 hours. Steenboksfontein is approximately 11 kilometers south of the village.

Gannet Colony...
The Bird Island Reserve is situated 100 meters off the harbour at Lamberts Bay and is connected by a pier so one can walk to the gannet birds. This one of the few breeding sites of gannets and a visit to the reserve is quite an experience.

HMS Sybille...
The British warship HMS Sybille ran aground off Steenboksfontein in 1901 during the Anglo Boer war. This was quite an historical event. All British sailors were saved by the farmers. The remains of the wreck lie approximately 200 meters off shore from Steenboksfontein and artifacts of the vessel are on display in the museum in Lambers Bay.

Sea foods...
The area is well known for its edible crayfish and snoek. The availability of crayfish has depleted a lot in modern times. Cape snoek is an elongated silvery fish that can reach a length of 2 meters and weigh up to 9 kg. The traditional way to serve snoek is grilled over coals and with boiled sweet potatoes. These items are available at the Muisbosskerm, a very wellknown open air restarant situated on the shore between Steenboksfontein and Lamberts Bay.

Historical caves...
On the main farm Steenboksfontein there are historical caves. These caves are in an area with hills with views of Lamberts Bay and Elands Bay, a neighbouring village. The history of the caves are part of a research project of the University of Cape Town’s department of archaeology. The Khoisan people used to live in these caves and to some extent the lived off sea life, including edible sea shell. Signs of life dating back as far as 8500 years have been found. There are also rock paintings, known as “bushman” art.

Restrictions applicable....
This portion is 8.4499 hectare of size and is zoned as agricultural land. The main road (road 538) runs through the property. Refer map. This is currently a gravel road and connects Lamberts Bay to Elands Bay. No developments or buildings may be erected on a range of 50 meters on either side of this road.

The portion on the western side of the road, that is the sea side (Atlantic Ocean), is classified as a reserve and permanent structures/buildings may not be erected. The pipeline which serves the main water supply to Lamberts Bay also runs through this section of the property. Anyone on who’s property the pipeline runs is allowable to have water supply from this pipeline.

Temporary structures, such as a wooden deck, patio etc may be erected for purposes as a picnic spot or area to relax when swimming at the beach.

Housing...
Taking the restrictions into account, the natural area/site for residential housing development will be on the inland side of the property towards the eastern border. This is also the highest part of the property.
